Events for National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, officially May 12, occur throughout the month of May. The 2013 theme - "C.A.R.E. & Make Fibromyalgia Visible" - encourages people to Contribute, Advocate, participate in Research, and Educate others about fibromyalgia. People with FM and their loved ones host community events - picnics, dinners, exhibit tables, walks, Zumbathons, and other creative ways - to help other people know about this invisible illness. Hearing people say, "But you look so good," underscores the importance of speaking up about chronic pain illnesses.

FIbromyalgia Awareness Day Proclamations around the Nation
The Fibromyalgia Legislative Proclamation and Resolution Program recognizes the significance of establishing legislative acknowledgement of fibromyalgia. The outreach program asks officials to declare May 12 as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in their jurisdiction to understand the difficulties of this chronic pain illness that affects 2-4% of people in their community and state with FM and their loved ones. Our nation is affected through additional FM medical expenses, loss of productivity, and the personal and family burdens of suffering silently. Because of the efforts of numerous support groups and individuals, this Legislative Proclamation Program has succeeded in bringing awareness to fibromyalgia at all levels of government, from mayors and governors to the president of the United States.
