What they're saying about Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain LIFE magazine

"What a great magazine!! The article by Barbara Keddy sounded like I was reading part of my own life story, and Dana Umscheid’s story I could totally relate! While I do not like hearing of someone who has this, these stories touched my heart and in some way made me feel a tad bit better. There is HOPE and I'm praying that someday soon, all of this will come together and we'll have answers!!! Thank you NFMCPA!"  ---Kristie N.

"I can't wait until the next issue comes out! Thank you!"  ---Aimie H.

"The cover actually made me cry because it is so beautiful and conveys a person with fibromyalgia. Thank-you." ---Devonna L.

"I read the magazine from cover to cover. Thanks for all the stories."  ---Donna H.

NFMCPA exhibit welcomed at PainWeek National Conference
by Sharon Waldrop, NFMCPA Vice President of Education
From September 7-10, NFMCPA President Jan Chambers, VP for Community Support Tom Hintz and I attended PAIN Week in Las, Vegas, NV. PAINWeek, the nation’s largest pain conference for frontline clinicians who have an interest in pain, invited us to be a conference partner.  My first impression of PAINWeek – the future for people in pain is bright – as bright as the neon Vegas lights. So many talented physicians and healthcare providers had gathered to learn how they can help their patients living with pain. - Read more of Sharon's account of PAINWeek

ASK THE EXPERT: Back to school - with fibro fog?

By Melissa Congdon, M.D.

Q:   I am going back to college. The first time around I had several instructors try to kick me out of class for missing too many days even though I explained I have fibromyalgia, and also had disability services on my side. What are some suggestions as to how to deal with the anxiety of having to take timed exams and dealing with the “fibro fog”? Some professors are willing to give you extra time, but some are not.

Program Improves Prescription for Access for Eligible People Living with Chronic Pain

As the number of uninsured Americans with chronic conditions rises, more and more people are finding it difficult to maintain their health, including those individuals suffering from fibromyalgia or chronic illnesses.  These individuals may be challenged to stay compliant with their medications due to cost.  However, skipping medicines or cutting back on medical care can lead to more serious health consequences.

Fortunately, resources are available that can help uninsured individuals save money on their prescriptions so they can manage chronic conditions and, in doing so, better manage overall healthcare costs.
